CS/IT Grad School Presentation

Date / Time: Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2009 @ 4:30 p.m. Guest Speaker: Phil Pfeiffer Associate Graduate Coordinator, East TN State University Location: RLY 204 If you enjoy problem solving, if you take pride in your skills and accomplishments, then there are sound reasons for attending graduate school after college: a chance to double in two years what you learned about computing in four years of undergraduate study; better access to current tools and interesting work; and opportunities for higher wages. While there is no one best way to pursue graduate studies, there are clear tradeoffs that should be considered when planning for graduate school: going immediately vs. waiting; full-time vs. part-time studies; small vs. large programs; teaching-oriented vs. research-oriented programs; and choice of fields to pursue.

About FU Computer Science

Furman's strong, well-established computer science program has much to offer students: chief among these are a dedicated faculty and state-of-the-art equipment and facilities.

One of the department's most distinctive characteristics is the availability of research and internship opportunities under the guidance of the computer science faculty.

Majors have assisted faculty members in research supported by grants from NASA, the National Science Foundation, the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, Apple Computer, and the Biomedical Research Infrastructure.

Furman CS majors have gone on to work for Apple, AT&T, Cisco Systems, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Microsoft, NCR, and Texas Instruments.

We offer three main laboratories, a student lounge, complete wireless access, a 32-node cluster computer, and a teaching theatre with state-of-the-art video presentation facilities.

But we don't like to brag.
